According to various studies, three out of every four adults are impacted by gum disease at some point in their life. Following a proper oral care routine is the best way to prevent cavities and gum diseases. By appropriate flossing and brushing daily, the majority of dental problems can be prevented from occurring.

Plaque, a colorless and sticky film that forms at the gum line and on the teeth, is responsible for most decay and gum diseases. Plaque results from eating and drinking habits and can be removed with a proper dental health routine being performed daily.

Tips for Good Oral Health

The following steps can be incorporated into the dental care routine to maintain good oral health.

Brush your teeth twice a day:  Use a toothpaste that contains fluoride and brush with a soft-bristled toothbrush.

Floss daily: Floss daily the right way to reach the spaces between your teeth or under your gums that can not be reached with a toothbrush.

Eat healthy food: Eating sugary and starchy snacks can contribute to tooth decay; avoid them. Also, limit the number of snacks throughout the day.

Drink tap water:The fluoride present in tap water helps prevent tooth decay.

Avoid tobacco:Tobacco increases the risk of gum disease and mouth and throat cancer.

Limit alcohol intake: Heavy alcohol use, especially when combined with tobacco, increases the risk for mouth and throat cancer.

Visit the dentist: Do not hesitate to visit a dentist in case you doubt some dental problems. Regular dental visits can help prevent dental problems or catch them early when they are easier to treat.

Ask about fluoride treatment:Ask your dentist about topical fluoride, a coating painted on the teeth to prevent tooth decay.

Professional Cleaning

Daily brushing and flossing can keep dental calculus to a minimum, but a professional cleaning will help remove calculus in places where your toothbrush and floss cannot reach.

Follow your daily dental care routine, visit your dentist for your routine check-ups, and maintain oral health.
