Same-day crowns are a type of restoration that uses CAD/CAM technology to design and mill a custom restoration in just one visit. Traditional dental crowns require two visits and can take several weeks to complete. CEREC technology allows for one appointment and completed restoration in one visit. Once your restoration is designed, it will be milled from a solid block of porcelain right in our office while you wait. Once the milling is complete, our dentist at Dental Health PC, will check the fit of your restoration to ensure a comfortable and perfect fit. Then, your new restoration will be permanently bonded to your tooth in one visit!
Same-day crowns are milled from a single piece of ceramic material using CAD/CAM technology. Using 3D imaging to scan the patient’s tooth digitally, the CEREC machine uses its optical camera to create an accurate and minutely detailed image of the tooth and surrounding area. This image is transferred to the milling machine, which mills out the restoration from a ceramic block in just a few minutes. Once the milling is complete, the crown is tested to ensure a perfect fit before it is cemented into place. The entire process takes approximately two hours from start to finish. Same-day crowns are an attractive and convenient option that reduces chair time and improves patient comfort.
Same-day dental crowns provide many benefits to patients, including convenience and improved oral health. With traditional crowns, patients were required to have two separate appointments with the dentist—one for preparation and one to place the permanent crown. CEREC same-day crowns can complete the entire procedure during a single appointment. CEREC also eliminates the need for uncomfortable temporaries. Patients leave the office with a perfectly fitted restoration that blends seamlessly with their natural teeth. This eliminates the risk of feeling self-conscious about the look of their teeth while the temporary is in place.
In addition to convenience, CEREC same-day crowns improve oral health by reducing the bacteria in your teeth and mouth. Placing a traditional crown requires that your tooth be drilled down significantly. This creates a deep pocket in the tooth where bacteria and saliva can accumulate. Placing a crown in a single visit reduces this time and improves overall health.
Patients who choose CEREC also benefit from the advanced ceramic materials used to create these restorations. Ceramic is biocompatible, so it is compatible with the tissue in your gums and will not cause irritation or inflammation. It is also more robust and durable than traditional porcelain and can last up to twice as long. Finally, it is stain-resistant, meaning you can enjoy your beautiful smile for years!
